An embolism is an intravascular mass that travels and occludes downstream vessels. Symptoms depend on the vessel involved, and may include myocardial infarction or cerebrovascular accidents like stroke.

Types of embolisms include:

  • Amniotic fluid embolism
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Systemic embolism
